The
most romantic place in
San Diego, California.
The City
by the Bay is, in itself, one of the world's most romantic
places. What more could you want besides softly undulating
hills containing spectacular views of land and sea,
mysterious fog, great food and drink, a timeless elegance
in architectural details, and the underlying feeling
of living on the edge of the world, an edge made all
the more dangerous by thoughts of the impending tremors
that remind us that life is fleeting--grab it while
you can?
For the untimate
experience let's talk extreme elegance here. What does
your mind conjure? In my fantasy I'd be floating with
my lover in a yacht full of caviar and champagne. I've
seen enough James Bond movies to know this would be
the epitome of the lush life. Well, that and a bevy
of beautiful blondes, but that's another story.
Mind you
I've only been on a yacht once in my life. Martha and
I sought to be rescued from an archaeological expedition
in Greece which had run out of food. While the rest
of the group contemplated killing a goat for dinner
or the project's leader for his bad planning, we hitched
a ride on a passing yacht. You can't imagine the relief
we felt sliding away from the island, Scotch in hand,
knowing we'd get a shower and a good meal at the next
port.
So our most
romantic spot would be a night (or a week!) aboard a
yacht. Preferably one anchored in a spot with fine views
and good food close by.
This is it!
Our number one romantic experience: Yacht rental, right
on the bay--and you don't even have to learn how to
drive the thing! Check out Dockside Boat and Bed. They
provide linen, fresh flowers, a continental breakfast
with fresh orange juice, assorted pastries, a newspaper
and more. You supply the champagne and caviar. There's
plenty of stores and restaurants many as close as the
next pier over, pier 39. The fresh sea breezes are on
the house.
If you'd
rather hire someone to actually take you somewhere on
a yacht, just check up there in the linkbox under Elsewhere
on the Web. You can take a two day trip to Napa via
the high seas if you're adventurous and have a rather
large bank account.
